Community Ministries of Rockville (2018)

Community Ministries of Rockville

Rockville, Md.

Since 1967, Community Ministries of Rockville has served the most vulnerable of Montgomery County (Maryland) residents by providing them with basic health and human services and advocating on their behalf, with the goal of helping them achieve and maintain self-sufficiency. Programs include elderly ministries; a health clinic for low-income, uninsured individuals; emergency assistance to prevent eviction; language outreach; and permanent supportive housing.

Community Ministries of Rockville received a $10,000 grant for its Elderly Ministries program that helped provide crucial in-home assistance to lower income seniors, enabling them to age in place safely and with needed social contacts. Services include homemaking, deliveries of groceries, minor home repairs and home maintenance that focuses on safety and functionality within the home.

One Community Ministries of Rockville client was forced to bathe herself in her basement. The bathtub in the main floor bathroom had very high sides, over which she could not climb. Elderly Ministries renovated her first floor bathroom so that it has a walk-in shower with grab bars and a bench. She is now able to bathe in dignity and does not have to navigate the basement stairs, which posed a significant risk of falls.
