Blue Ridge Hospice (2018)

Blue Ridge Hospice

Winchester, Va.

Blue Ridge Hospice was established in the early 1980’s and is the only local, not-for-profit hospice serving residents in the City of Winchester and the counties of Frederick, Clarke, Shenandoah, Warren, Loudon, Page, Fauquier and Rappahannock. It provides end-of-life care to persons with life-limiting illnesses, supports their families and those affected by death and dying in the Northern Shenandoah Valley, and advocates for patient comfort, dignity and choice.

For more than 35 years, Blue Ridge Hospice has remained true to its founding premise of being “Open to All”. The $10,000 grant will become a part of the Patient Care Fund which is available to older adults and their families who are unable to pay for hospice services. In 2017, 17 seniors received a total of $32,242 in financial assistance from the Health Care Fund.

Although patients may be receiving end of life care, there are still significant events that occur in their lives and deserve to be noticed. One hospice patient, Kitty, turned 105 at her assisted living facility. The Blue Ridge Hospice Interdisciplinary Team arranged for a grand birthday party in her honor, reminding her that she is still special and worthy of being celebrated.
